Welcome to the graduate admissions section of Konkuk University’s website. Students from around the world come to the university each year for their graduate education. In 2015, a total of 439 students from 19 countries, including Afghanistan, China, and Sweden, studied at Konkuk University’s Graduate School. Please note that the folloiwng information provided on this page is for applicants who wish to study at Konkuk’s Graduate School. Applicants interested in a program offered by one of the university’s professional graduate schools should directly contact each school for academic and admissions-related information.

  • Application Requirements
    Nationality Requirements

    All applicants must meet one of the following:

    • Applicants and their parents are foreign nationals without Korean citizenship OR
    • Applicants completed primary, secondary, and tertiary education in a foreign country.

    If an applicant does not meet one of the above-mentioned requirements, please visit Admissions for Korean Students.

    Academic Requirements

    Master’s Programs

    All applicants must obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by February 2017.

    • * The Department of Biomedical Science & Technology only accepts applicants with a bachelor’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or engineering.

    PhD Programs

    All applicants must obtain a master’s degree from an accredited university by February 2017.

    • * The Department of Biomedical Science & Technology only accepts applicants with a master’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or engineering.
    • * The Department of Advanced Technology Fusion only accepts applicants with a master’s degree in natural sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine, or pharmacy.
    Language Proficiency Requirements

    All applicants must demonstrate Korean or English proficiency through:

    • TOPIK Level 3 or higher OR
    • A minimum score of 550 on TOEFL PBT, 210 on TOEFL CBT, 80 on TOEFL iBT, 5.5 on IELTS or 550 on TEPS

    • Applicants who do not speak Korean must consult with their department prior to applying.
    • Students admitted with TOPIK Level 3 must obtain TOPIK Level 4 or above prior to the beginning of their last semester.
    • With permission and recommendation by a Konkuk professor in their department, applicants can gain admission without meeting the language proficiency requirement. The KUGRD-P5 form must be filled out and signed by the professor and the department chair in such cases. However, without English test results, the applicants may not be granted a scholarship during their first semester. Such applicants must also obtain TOPIK Level 4 or above prior to the beginning of their last semester.
    • The Department of Korean Language & Literature strongly recommends TOPIK Level 5 or higher for applicants to successfully complete the program.

    Applicants must submit a printed copy of their online application and required documents in person or via registered mail. With the exception of TOPIK which can arrive by November 15, all other documents must arrive by November 25.

    Interviews and Entrance Examinations From 10 a.m. on June 3, 2017 An interview and/or entrance examinations may be required for students applying for physical education, art, and music programs. Applicants must check the Office of International Affairs’ website (http://abroad.konkuk.ac.kr) for further details.

    • Applicants residing overseas (non-visa holders): After July 31, 2017
    • Applicants residing in Korea (D-2/D-4 visa holders): Certificate of Admissions for changing or extending visas
    • Applicants residing overseas (non-visa holders): Visa Issuance Number for applicants to apply for visas at Korean Consulates overseas
    Issuance of Student ID No. Early August Posted on the Office of International Affairs’ website (http://abroad.konkuk.ac.kr).
    Course Registration Mid-August Schedule will be posted on the Office of International Affairs’ website (http://abroad.konkuk.ac.kr).
    Supplementation of Required Documents By August 25, 2017 Students who were soon-to-be graduates at the time of their application must submit their original copy of transcript in English or a notarized version. They must also submit their certificate of degree certified by a Korean Consulate or authenticated with an Apostille.
    Report to the Office of International Affairs Within one week of arrival at Konkuk Students arriving from overseas must report to the Office of International Affairs within a week of their arrival at Korea
    Orientation 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on August 25, 2017 Orientation will take place at Room 425 of Sanghuh Hall. Details will be emailed.
    Purchase of Health Insurance August 25 – September 1, 2017 All international students are required to purchase health insurance. Details will be emailed at the end of February.
    New Semester Begins August 28, 2017 Fall 2017

  • Application Process
    • Applicants should check their eligibility prior to starting the application process.
    • If any false, incorrect or omitted information, missing documents, or misdeeds are found during the application process, the applicant will be held responsible. Consequences may include but are not limited to disqualification from the application process, admission revocation, or dismissal from the university.
    • Applicants must provide their valid and frequently-used email address. Important information and updates will be sent by email and it is the applicants’ responsibility to check their email accounts regularly.
    Online Application

    All applicants must submit their online application through www.jinhakapply.com by registering for the website, filling out the application, and paying the application fee between 9:30 a.m. on May 1 and 5:00 p.m. on May 12, 2017. After the deadline, applicants cannot change or cancel their application nor receive a refund. Please refer to the Fall 2017 Admissions Guidelines for more information on submitting online applications.

    Submission of Required Documents

    Applicants must submit additional documents either in-person or via registered mail (e.g. DHL, UPS, EMS, etc.). Applications with incomplete and/or inadequate documents will not be reviewed for admission. Please refer to the Fall 2017 Admissions Guidelines on how to prepare each document.

    The documents must arrive at the following address by 5 p.m. on November 15, 2016, with the exception of TOPIK score reports, which can be supplemented by 5 p.m. on November 25, 2016. Applicants are strongly recommended to submit the documents in-person when possible as it will speed up the admissions process. If using registered mail, it is the applicant’s responsibility to confirm whether the documents arrived in an appropriate and timely manner by sending an email to roger@konkuk.ac.kr.

    Interviews and/or Entrance Examinations

    Physical education, arts, and music departments may require interviews and/or entrance examinations. Students applying to such departments must check the website of the Office of International Affairs for the schedules. They must bring their ID, such as a passport or an alien registration card, and portfolios if required. For details, please refer to the Spring 2017 International Students Admissions Guidelines.

    Phone interviews may be conducted for students applying to other departments.
