Graduate School of Mass Communication: “Creativity and Proactivity in the Changing Media Landscape”On May 26, 2016, Konkuk University’s Graduate School of Mass Communication & Public Relations held a seminar under the theme of “Creativity and Proactivity in the Changing Media Landscape” at The Classic 500. The seminar consisted of two presentations—one on virtual reality by Mr. Byunghun Kim of MBC and another on strategies for the changing media landscape by Dr. Jungsu Kang, president of the Research Center for Digital Society. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion by media professionals from News 1, Channel A, and MBC. Dr. Dongkyu Kim, the dean of the Graduate School of Mass Communication & Public Relations said, “I hope that the seminar would be an opportunity to closely examine the changes and the future of media.”KU China Institute Holds a Seminar on the “Changing International Order in Northeast Asia”Konkuk University’s China Institute held a symposium titled “Changing International Order in Northeast Asia” at the business school on May 26. Professor Fan Shih-ping of National Taiwan Normal University presented on China’s policy toward the Tsai Ing-wen administration and the future of cross-Strait relations. Professor Shu Geng from Nanjing University of Finance & Economics and Dr. Daisuke Hayashi of the National Archives of Japan discussed cross-Strait relations and stability in Northeast Asia as well as China and Japan’s strategic position towards the EU, respectively. The final presentation was “North Korea’s 7th Party Congress and the Future of Inter-Korean Relations” delivered by Dr. Ilgi Kim of the Institute for National Security Strategy.
“Tension has been rising in Northeast Asia due to China’s rise, the “Pivot” to Asia by the United States, UN sanctions on North Korea, China and Japan’s dispute over Senkaku islands as well as Taiwan’s new administration,” said Dr. In hee Han, the president of KU China Institute. “The KU China Institute has invited scholars from relevant countries to discuss the changing international order in the region and policy responses.”
