On April 21, 2016, two Konkuk University professors were recognized by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning during a ceremony to celebrate the 49th National Science Day. Professor Jong-Pil Won of the Department of Civil and Environmental System Engineering and Professor Doo-Hyun Kim of the Department of Internet and Multimedia Engineering received a “Science and Technology Medal” and a “Presidential Award,” respectively. The ceremony was hosted at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, and more than 700 guests, including President Park Geun-hye, were in attendance.Professor Won has developed technologies to manufacture and use highly functional building materials. By transferring technology to the industry and spreading their usage, he contributed to extending the life of public infrastructure and improved safety, particularly for concrete structures.Meanwhile, Professor Kim was acknowledged for his contribution to forming policies on training experts in software and the use of big data. He was selected by the ministry as a “creative planner” to promote the Basic Research Center for Software and the Software Grand Challenge project in order to increase competitiveness of the industry. Professor Kim also chairs the Cloud Computing Technology Forum.
