On July 28, 2016, the Konkuk University Medical Center announced that Dr. Hana Kim of the Department of Laboratory Medicine received the Young Scientist Award by the Asia-Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemist and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB). Dr. Kim’s study found that Pro-Enkephalin, Neutrophil Gelatinase-associated Lipocalin, and glomerular filtration rate increases in serious cases of sepsis. The research also showed that Pro-Enkephalin was useful in predicting acute kidney injuries as well as the mortality rate of patients suffering from the condition. A federation of 17 national associations of clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine in the Asia-Pacific, APFCB is a partner of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
