On December 5, 2016, Konkuk University (KU) recognized 51 professors as “research pioneers.” An award ceremony was held at The Classic 500 to encourage the professors to improve the quality of their research. This year, professors were evaluated according to five criteria—published papers, research grants, citations, contribution of indirect costs, and technology transfers—and were selected from three groups—humanities, social sciences, and arts, natural sciences and medicine, and engineering.
Among the research pioneers, Professors Jung Kul Lee and Doo Kyung Mun of the College of Engineering, Professor Jin Hoi Kim of the College of Animal Bioscience & technology, and Professor Chang-Seon Song of the College of Veterinary Medicine received the “triple crown,” ranking top 5 in three areas. In particular, Professor Lee ranked first in terms of citations and second in published papers and research grants.
“The research pioneers performed in the top 5% of all Konkuk faculty members,” said KU President Sang-Gi Min in his congratulatory remarks. “We will continue to support the best professors by creating an ideal research environment so that Konkuk can become a research-oriented university by its centennial.”
