On November 7, 2016, Konkuk University announced that a research team lead by Professor Yong-Seok Heo of the Department of Chemistry published an article titled “Structural Basis of Checkpoint Blockade by Monoclonal Antibodies in Cancer Immunotherapy” in Nature Communications. The research on crystal structures of checkpoint molecules that elucidate epitopes of the antibodies and molecular mechanisms underlying checkpoint blockade is to contribute to the treatment of cancer. Researchers Ju Yeon Lee and Hyun Tae Lee, master’s students at the chemistry department, and Woori Shin, a recent graduate, were listed as co-first authors of the article. The research was supported by a National Research Foundation of Korea grant by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.
