On January 10, 2017, Konkuk University hosted the International Symposium on Environmental Measuring Technology and Management at the New Millennium Hall. Professor Petros Koutrakis of Harvard University, Dr. David Butterfield of the National Physical Laboratory in the United Kingdom, and Dr. Vuong-Vinh Pham of the Center for Environmental Monitoring in Vietnam participated in the event, which was also attended by KU President Sanggi Min and Director-General of Environmental Policy Minho Lee at the Ministry of the Environment. During the symposium, the participants discussed recent developments in research related to environmental measuring technologies.“Environmental research is critical to our very own existence as water, air, and soil are fundamental elements that sustain the ecosystem on earth,” said President Min in his congratulatory remarks. “I hope that the symposium could successfully support Korean organizations and companies involved in environmental measuring expand their reach into the global market.”“A proactive response to the environmental changes that followed rapid industrial development in Korea is necessary,” said Mr. Lee of the Ministry of Environment. “The ministry will provide full support during the 4th industrial revolution so that the country’s environmental measuring technologies can become globally competitive.”In 2014, Konkuk University launched the R&D Center for Green Patrol Technologies after being chosen to participate in the Global Top Environmental Technology Development Project by the Ministry of Environment and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute. With approximately 30 other organizations, the center works to upgrade environmental measuring technologies for air and water pollution as well as toxic substances.The New Millennium Hall also featured the “Green Patrol Technologies Exhibition” displaying various equipment and technologies.
