Acquisition of Excellent Laboratory for Safety Management

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Konkuk University was selected as the 'Safety Management Excellence Lab' in the '2018 Safety Management Excellence Lab Examination' held by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information. Konkuk University received the government's accreditation for safety management excellence for the second consecutive year following 2017 and was recognized as the best laboratory safety management level.<br /></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />The laboratory has been awarded certificates which certifies for two years in two laboratories: Organic Synthesis Laboratory (professor Sung Hoon Kim of College of Science) and electric nano biosensor laboratory (professor Sung Jung Kwon of College of Science).<br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><img style="margin-left: auto; display: block; margin-right: auto;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11751600" width="604" height="431" /></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The 'Safety Management Excellence Lab System' supervised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information is designed to strengthen the autonomous safety management capacity of scientific and technological laboratories installed at universities and research institutes and to discover and spread standard model for safety management in accordance with the 「Law for Establishment of Safety Environment for Laboratories」. It is a system that the government certifies the laboratory with its own excellent safety management activities and safety consciousness through examination by experts. <br /></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />In order to acquire the certification, as a laboratory with no accidents, in the safety environment system field (30 points), laboratory safety environment activity level field (50 point), laboratory safety management person safety awareness field (20 point), they must earn an overall score of 80 or above through the examination.</span></p> <p><br /><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><img style="margin-left: auto; display: block; margin-right: auto;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11751601" width="577" height="420" /></span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Konkuk University Laboratory received certification screening on June 14 last year in laboratory consultation and main screening on August 30. In particular, the President Sang-Gi Min, participated in the interview of 「the head of the research subject」 which is evaluated by three expert jury members, and received a very good evaluation in the field of safety management consciousness. <br /></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Since the establishment of the Safety Management Team in 2014, Konkuk University has been striving to strengthen its safety management and safety awareness through ongoing laboratory safety education and publicity. Each laboratory that has been accredited has not only high level of safety consciousness and safety management, but also attained legal safety education, actively promoted safety education and safety management activities before and after experiment.<br /></span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />Ho-bong Bae, the safety management team leader of Konkuk University said "the importance of safety management in the laboratory has been greatly emphasized, and the fact that our university has been certified externally for safety management excellence is a result of efforts for the safety management of the school members, and added “based on this, we will suggest a standard model for safety management at the university, and we will do our best so that the safety management culture of the laboratory can spread throughout the university."<br /></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><img style="margin-left: auto; display: block; margin-right: auto;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11751602" width="595" height="425" /></span></p>
