Professor Hyundong Paik from the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology of Animal Resources at Konkuk University’s Sanghuh College of Life Science was awarded with the Leading Scientist Award at ‘The Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology(KMB) 2020 47th Annual Meeting & International Symposium’on the 23rd. The symposium this year was held online due to the COVID-19.The Leading Scientist Award by KMB is an award given to a researcher with great accomplishments in the field of microbiology and biotechnology, and Professor Paik is the very first awardee.
While working in the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology of Animal Resources at Konkuk University since 2003, Professor Paik has conducted various researches including ‘Study on the Characteristics of Probiotics Separated from Traditional Fermented Foods,’ ‘Study on the Develop,ent of Food and Biological Materials,’ and ‘Study on Natural Preservatives by Microorganisms.’
Based on his research areas, Professor Paik won the Leading Scientist Award for his contribution to the development of microbiology and biotechnology with the publication of 303 SCI(E)-level theses and 49 academic papers inside and outside of Korea, 88 patents registration at home and abroad, and 29 technology transfer.
Since the establishment of ‘The Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology’ in 1973, it has been leading the field of microbiology and biotechnology in Korea, and is a renowned academic association with about 8,000 members who publish the Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology(JMB) and Microbiology and Biotechnology Letters(MBL), a SCOPUS-listed journal.
Professor Paik has started his career as a member of The Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology in 1985 and is currently the Vice President (2019~present) after serving his position as a Financial Secretary (2004), Academic Secretary (2005), Chariman of the Committee for Microbiology and Fermented Food (2013-2014), Auditor (2014), and Director (2015-2018).
