Konkuk University (KU) held an international seminar on the development of creative and innovative forms of venture businesses in China and the Korea-China cooperative model on Feb. 20, 2014, commemorating the establishment of the KU Research Institute of Chinese Enterprise (KURICE) as an affiliate of the Konkuk University China Institute (KUCI). KURICE was founded based on the recognition of the importance of Chinese firms which are the central forces of China's economy.
This seminar, hosted in order to explore measures for mutual cooperation in Korea's "creative economy initiative," was attended by three CEOs, including Mr. Jinghong Xu (徐井宏), Chairman of Tsinghua Holdings Co., Ltd.; Mr. Peter Liu (劉志碩), China's prominent angel investor; and other guests. Tsinghua Holdings is a model case of industry-academic cooperation venture led by Tsinghua University, a prestigious research university in China, with a total capital of about 13 billion USD and around 100 subsidiary companies. Among those subsidiaries, Tsinghua Science Park (科技園) is at the center of Zhongguancun, China's "Silicon Valley" which has been developing since 1994 as the single largest science and technology research complex in the world.
KURICE intends to provide an international-level forum for in-depth discussion through the research of Chinese companies based on the following seven categories: government-run firms, university-owned enterprise, private companies, family enterprises, venture businesses, multinational corporations, and companies led by overseas Chinese. Utilizing this seminar as a stepping stone, KU plans to not only pursue joint businesses between Korea and China by cooperating with Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Holdings but also promote the formation of an international partnership network of industry-academic cooperation.
