On July 11, 2014, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Science Research Institute at Konkuk University (KU) held a seminar on veterinary medicine education of Japan and the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). For this seminar, KU invited two professors from the Dept. of Veterinary Medical Sciences, UTokyo, who came to Korea to attend the Asian Association of Veterinary Schools (AAVS) meeting hosted by Seoul National University.
At the seminar room at KU College of Veterinary Medicine, the UTokyo professors introduced the program "Vet 4 U," an educational program developed with three other neighboring universities of UTokyo. Through this program, the four universities are sharing educational contents and performing commissioned training for each university's specialized education. To achieve educational standardization, the "veterinary education model curriculum" was launched last year.
UTokyo is also carrying out an innovative program which enables "Problem Based Study" (PBS) online, allowing students to study autonomously. This program was designed to meet the diversifying and increasing needs for veterinary education contents that cannot be covered by school education alone.
By utilizing such advanced educational system, UTokyo plans to vitalize and expand the sharing of educational materials with universities across Asia. Particularly, it will promote a mutual agreement with KU College of Veterinary Medicine to be concluded in Fall 2014 and explore substantial cooperative measures among East Asian universities.
