On July 2, 2014, Konkuk University (KU) and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), a world-renowned research institute based in Austria, concluded an MOU for joint research as well as faculty and student exchange.
At the MOU ceremony held at KU Administration Building, members of both institutions including Dr. Heeyoung Song, KU President, Dr. Pavel Kabat, IIASA Director General, Mr. Chin-Min Lee, Special Advisor to IIASA, and Prof. Jung-Hun Woo, Chair of the Dept. of Advanced Technology Fusion at KU, gathered to sign the MOU for joint research and mutual exchange. The two sides plan to expand the existing agreement on contract research on the comprehensive management of climate change and atmospheric environment made in the previous year to the areas of population, water resources, food, and equality.
KU's Prof. Woo has been conducting research with IIASA as the principal researcher of GAINS-Korea, a research initiated by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) of Korea, an affiliate of the Korean Ministry of Environment, in November 2013. From this year, he also plans to pursue joint research with IIASA, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES; Japan), Seoul National University (Korea), and Tsinghua University (China) on the development of a future emissions scenario for air pollutants in East Asia.
