The Division of Biological Sciences, Konkuk University (KU) College of Bioscience and Biotechnology, invited Prof. L. Mario Amzel of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine to hold a workshop on protein structure research, during Jan. 8-9, 2014, at the Industry-University Cooperation Bldg., KU Seoul Campus. Both undergraduate and graduate students of KU College of Bioscience and Biotechnology participated in the workshop.
On Jan. 8, Prof. Lin-Woo Kang lectured on the theme of protein characteristics and the significance of protein structure, while Prof. Amzel's lecture and practical exercise covered elastic network models (ENMs) applied to protein structural analysis.
On the second day of the workshop, Prof. Donghak Kim presented on protein targets and drug interaction, followed by Prof. Amzel's lecture and practical exercise focusing on molecular dynamics used for protein structural analysis.

The workshop provided undergraduate students the opportunity to converse with Dr. Amzel about diverse topics in academics as well as Korean culture during their visit to the National Museum of Korea and Korean Folk Village.
Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for research collaboration between KU College of Bioscience and Biotechnology's Division of Biological Sciences and JHU School of Medicine's Dept. of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry on Nov. 18, 2013, joint research and educational exchange have been carried out between the two institutions.
