On Oct. 24, 2014, the Biosafety Committee of Konkuk University (KU) Center for Research Ethics was awarded by the Korean Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation as an institution with outstanding biosafety management, at the 2nd Conference of the Biological Safety Association. The award was made in recognition of KU's efforts for protecting the public from the hazards of high-risk pathogenic organisms and genetically modified organisms as well as for expanding the awareness of biosafety and biosecurity.
In 2008, Konkuk launched the very first Biosafety Committee among Korean universities, and has been managing relevant facilities for the safe implementation of research utilizing living modified organisms (LMOs), high-risk pathogenic organisms, etc. The Committee is composed of 10 professors of biomedical science.
