Konkuk University (KU) announced on Sept. 8, 2015, that the KU Asia Contents Institute has been selected for the Basic Research Promotion Fund awarded by the Korean National Research Foundation (NRF). The Institute will be funded with a total of 0.6 billion KRW for three years.
The research project to be carried out by the Institute concerns transforming into databases the texts and visual materials related to tourism between the Korean enlightenment (i.e., gaehwa) period and the Japanese colonial rule, in both the Korean and Japanese languages. The study results are expected to become the foundation of cultural contents development and research, as the basic data will be provided to be utilized for creating region-based tourism contents. It is further anticipated that the tourism industry thus created will reproduce a variety of contents as well as that relevant industries will be expanded as a result.
