Konkuk’s Outstanding Research Capacity Proven by Winning Large-scale Research Grants

<p style="text-align: left;">Research teams at Konkuk University (KU) have been recently selected to conduct major large-scale national R&D projects pursued by the Korean government, gaining recognition of Konkuk's world-class research capacity. Following the obtainment of approximately 72.4 billion KRW (or about 66 million USD) of funding for the new environmental technology project carried out by Prof. Jo-Chun Kim's team (College of Engineering) in 2014, KU is continuing with its winning of major government research projects.</p> <p style="text-align: left;"> </p> <p><img src="ArticleFile.do?id=11635980" /></p> <h2>KU Research Team Selected as Korea's 'Science Research Center'</h2> <p> </p> <p>The research team of the Dept. of Animal Science & Technology, Konkuk University (KU) College of Animal Bioscience & Technology, led by Prof. Jin Hoi Kim, has been designated by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) as a Science Research Center (SRC) for its Humanized Pig Research Project.</p> <p><a href="ArticleRead.do?forum=11587539&sort=6&id=5b16dff" target="_blank">Click here to learn more.</a></p> <p> </p> <h2>Konkuk Selected to Conduct Biomedical Technology Development Project</h2> <p> </p> <p>The research group led by Prof. Hyung Min Chung of Konkuk University (KU) Lab of Stem Cell Biology, KU School of Medicine, has been selected for the 2015 biomedical technology development project by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) for the group's investigation of stem cell-based new drug development. This MSIP project is a representative R&D project in the biomedicine field aiming at strengthening the nation's competitiveness and the advancement of domestic public health and medical industries.</p> <p>Prof. Chung's team will be funded with a total of 10 billion KRW (or approximately 8.39 million USD) for the next five years for the project of discovering human stem cell-based new drug technology and candidate drugs.</p> <p> </p> <h2>Konkuk Selected for the NRF's Project for Recovery of Brain Cognitive Disorder Following PTSD</h2> <p> </p> <p>The Konkuk University (KU) Division of Specialized Studies (College of Bioscience & Biotechnology) research team led by Prof. Jung-Soo Han and Prof. ChiHye Chung has been selected for the research on the recovery of brain cognitive disorder following PTSD among the projects of the Original Technology Research Program for Brain Science of the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF).</p> <p>The Original Technology Research Program for Brain Science is a mid- to long-term project of the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), which pursues the reinforcement of national science and technology competitiveness and strives to contribute to the people's life quality by securing basic and original technologies in the brain sciences.</p> <p>Prof. Han, the principal investigator, Prof. Chung, and Prof. Joon-sik Choi (Korea University) are to be funded with 1.75 billion KRW (or about 1.46 million USD) for the next five years for their project on assessing the validity of PTSD animal model based on clinically valid genes and the provision of high-utility early diagnosis technology.</p> <p> </p> <h2>The Selection of Prof. Jo-Chun Kim's Research Team for 2014 New Environmental Technology Project</h2> <p> </p> <p>In 2014, Konkuk University's (KU) environmental engineering research team headed by Prof. Jo-Chun Kim (College of Engineering) was selected as the host group of the massive scale, new environmental technology project of the Korean Ministry of Environment (MOE) and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI). "Green patrol" is a collective name for an early warning system which assesses the pollution level of the object (e.g., atmosphere, water quality, soil quality, etc.) real time and adequately predicts environmental damages.
