On February 5, 2016, Konkuk University announced that research by Dr. Hakseong Kim of the School of Physics and other physicists at Seoul National University, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, and Columbia University to create 0.335 nm thick graphene has been recognized as the Guinness World Record’s thinnest light source. Their research findings on a single layer of graphene that emits light within the visible spectrum was published in Nature Nanotechnology on June 15, 2015. The Guinness World Records added that the light source may be a promising material for thin, flexible, and transparent displays.
