Konkuk University, ranked at 7th Place in Joongang Ilbo University Rankings, aims for the top 5 prestigious private schools.

- Strength in employment and start-up - stood out at the top in the start-up education ratio for all fields, proving its title as ‘the Mecca of start-up education.’
Konkuk University (President: Jeon, Young Jae) stated on the 17th, “It is the highest ranking ever. Konkuk University will acknowledge the result as the fruit of hard-working on culturing and nurturing creative talents, which can lead the change of an era while heading toward Konkuk’s centenary. We will keep the momentum of contribution to the society.”
The breakthrough into the top 10 is the first time for Konkuk since Joongang Ilbo started announcing rankings in 1994. Konkuk’s order had been rising gradually since 2016 and finally bore fruit by jumping four spots from the 11th rank to the 7th. It is 6th place among private institutions.
Konkuk’s ranking leapt in overall areas, highlighted by the 3rd in student education, the 8th in faculty research, and the 9th in social reputation.
Its competitive edge in the ‘Student Education and Achievements‘ area has been recognised, which evaluates Net Employment Rate, Student Startup Supports and Achievements, Participation in Start-up Education Programme, etc. Konkuk made a six-step-stride from 9th place in 2021 to 3rd place in the area this year.
The Student Startup Stupports and Achievements jumped to the 2nd (10th in the last year). Konkuk and its students were selected for various support programmes, including Pre-Startup Package, Early-Stage Startup Package, Lab Startup, and the Seoul Campus Town project. The management and performance are reflected in the result. Especially, Konkuk is the cream of the crop in the ratio of start-up education in all areas; liberal arts/social sciences/natural sciences/engineering, as it is usually dubbed as ‘The Mecca of start-up education.‘ It cultured 80 student start-up founders in the last year, the highest number among universities evaluated. (Other indexes 3rd in number of start-ups per enrolled students, 4th in sales per start-up business, 7th in supporting funds for start-ups per enrolled students)
Faculty research (total ten indexes) rose one spot. It includes dissertations of faculty members and research funding. Among the indexes, the leap from 8th to 4th in Publication of International Dissertations is eye-catching. Konkuk marked 10th in International Dissertation Citation Rate, 6th in Publication of Books/Translations per liberal arts/social sciences faculty, Industry-Academic Cooperation Revenue per Professor of Science and Technology.
Especially liberal arts field ranked 7th while topping in the faculty research area for three consecutive years. Other indexes included in the faculty research area marked 1st in Publication of international Dissertations per professor, 5th in Research Funding (External) per professor, International Dissertation Citation Rate,
As a result, Konkuk marked 9th in Reputation, stepping up from 8th in the last year. The index and distribution marks for the category are: Most Favoured by Companies, Most Likely to be Applied for Entrance, Most Favoured by Parents, etc.
President Jeon cited, “We have built the cornerstone for the leap to the World’s top 100 Universities while continuing the growth to the top 5 domestic universities in Korea with all members of Konkuk.”
