Konkuk University said that President Sanggi Min and Vice President for International Affairs Dong-Eun Kim visited Israel universities as ‘Korean University President Israel Government Invitation Program’ and discussed about exchange and cooperation plan from October 28th to November 1st.
Israel government started this program last year to improve international exchange and cooperation between Israel universities and Korean universities. From October 28th, President Sanggi Min visited Israel Technion Institute of Technology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Ben-Gurion University, and Tel Aviv University with other universities’ Presidents.
During his visitation, President Min discussed with the Vice President Adam Shwartz and Paul Feigin of Vice President of Strategy and International Affairs, about excellent results of technology transfer of Technion Institute of Technology and how to attract Konkuk University students. Also, he visited Samsung Local Corporation in Israel and heard about win-win strategy between Israel’s startup business and Korean major companies.
At Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the first university in Israel, President Min discussed with Yosi Gal of Vice President of Public Affairs about technology transfer of research results, exchange undergraduate and graduate students between Konkuk University and Hebrew University, and exchange between Asia Research Institute of Hebrew University and Academy of Mobility Humanities of Konkuk University. At Ben-Gurion University, located in strategic point of Negev desert area, they visited Ilse Katz Institute for Nanoscale Sciences and Technology and discussed about how to operate the Institute and cooperate with Professors. Also, at the Tel Aviv University, located in the city of Tel Aviv, though consultation with the President Josepph Klafter and Vice President of Research, Yoav Heins, they discussed about exchange program using short-term vacation programs and had a conversation with the staffs from the company Ramot, the technology transfer company which commercializes research results.
President Min and his party also visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, and Korean Embassy and discussed about Israel’s desire for international cooperation with government-level and Korean government’s exchange policy toward Israel. And a banquet was held with the Professor Aron Ciechanover of Technion Institute of Technology, who was also a Novel Prize Laureate in 2004, and heard about his opinion regarding science technology exchange with Korea.
Israel, with 8.5 million population, since the government formation in 1948, they produced 12 Nobel Prize Laureates and performs international leader of science technology by transferring technology with over 7,000 of start-up companies, and it makes Israel very strong country in the field of applied science which produces the great amount of national wealth. University is the where start-up business is born and they are what global first science technology and world major companies are looking for. Israel government is prosecuting two countries’ science technology and cultural exchange through promoting exchange between Israel universities and Korean universities.
