Konkuk University (President Sanggi Min) said they held the ‘2nd Korea-China-Australia Start-up Union's Demo-day’ at Sinnosteel’s Innovation Center of Tianjin, China on Aug.30th.
Konkuk University’s ‘Korea-China-Australia Start-up Union Demo-day’ is a Konkuk University’s students’ start-up companies support program for their overseas expansion, which has been 2 years as a part of Korea-China student start-up companies’ exchange, with Innovation Center operated by Chinese state-owned company, Sinosteel Corporation.
For last year, 6 teams of Konkuk University’s students’ start-up companies and 5 teams of Renmin Universtity of China’s students’ start-up companies participated and the ‘Like a Local’ (representative Sung-jun Hyun, International Trade, 2011) corporation, which is Konkuk University’s student start-up company moved into Sinosteel Corporation’s Innovation center and completed joint venture with Chinese state-owned company for the first time as a student start-up company.
This year, not only Korea and China’s participation, but also Australian University’s student start-up business such as Edith Cowan University and staff members participated, so the scale and number of countries were expanded.
On that Demo-day, around 80 people were participating including local main venture capital, accelerator, angel investment, and university’s start-up business support staffs from Korea, China and Australia. 11 (preliminary) start-up teams joined the final of the Demo-day including Konkuk University’s student start-up team K-Ventures (video ad competition platform using creators), Jaemireul beoneun saramdeul (Online Viral Contents making and advertising service), Insolution (customized shoe insole for attaching ancillary tools according to the health condition of the foot), LIGHT美(IoT mood light which shows weather information with light), Mitelba (functional drink development).
At the Networking party after Demo-day, student start-up business team, Sino steel’s Innovation Center staffs, start-up business supporters from Beijing Normal University and Edith Cowan University, and start-up business people from each countries shared about trend of global start-up business and discussed about ways to vitalize students’ start-up exchange between nations.
Gi-young Park, the Dean of Career development and placement office said “we’re planning to foster global star start-up company from our university through systematic support for students who wish for overseas expansion from the beginning of their start-up business.”
