Konkuk University moved the International Office to the open high-tech office space to enhance international exchange and foreign student services and also newly established the 'Lee Sun-deok Global Lounge', a convenience space for foreign students on the first floor of the law school building.
Global Lounge, which established to honor Mrs. Lee Sun-deok, who donated all of her life’s assets to Konkuk University, is created as 80 square meter area, similar to ‘K-CUBE’, an open learning space opened in five different area on KU campus, including Sanghuh memorial library.In addition to the open space where foreign students can conveniently communicate and share information, there are 4 conference rooms and seminar rooms. This will enable students to freely use the Global Lounge during English discussion, tutoring study, and team-based learning sessions, which will lead to the creation of a learning atmosphere and sharing of learning materials.
Konkuk University International Office has completed 6 months of office relocation work from May to December and rebuilt as a new open high-tech work space of 95 square meters. The open-space office, which is divided into two spaces, International Programs office and Center for International Faculty & Student Services, has been replaced with a transparent glass door so that foreign students can visit easily at any time, and the office space is arranged to provide close service and administrative support for foreign students. In order to enable the smooth communication within team members, the office-type which office space separated by partitions has been replaced with a round table. The International Office also set up a reception room (15 square meters) and a seminar room (12 square meters) for gusts from foreign universities. Mrs.Lee Soon-deok, who contributed all her life to the Konkuk University, donated the building worth KRW 400 million locate in front of the back gate of Konkuk University in 2005 to Konkuk University. In 2006, she also donated 200 million won in deposits which she left for her sisters in North Korea, to Konkuk University. In 2015, KRW 100 million was donated to the Development Fund for Konkuk University and her donation amounts to 700 million KRW until now. Although Mrs. Lee passed away at the age of 90 in 2017, the meaning continues. Her donation continues to provide scholarships to scholars who has been selected when Mrs. Lee was still alive. The sublime meaning of the deceased Grandmother Lee who practiced true sharing, is still remaining on campus at the 'Soon-deok Memorial Lecture Room' opened on the third floor of the university-industry cooperative building and at the 'Global Lounge'.
