Expansion of cooperation on research exchange and accreditation of dual degree with 6 universities including Nanjing University Konkuk University announced on April 17 that President Sanggi Min visited universities in Jiangsu, Jiangsu and Shanghai area to sign MOUs and promote cooperation in academic exchanges and joint degrees in China from April 7th to 12th. Dong-eun Kim, The vice-president of International Affairs, Woo-young Jung, the director of International Programs, Professor In-hee Han (KUCI·Konkuk University China Institute) have joined the visit. In addition, President Min has discussed about expansion of student exchanges between the postgraduate / doctoral courses students, joint lectures among universities, and ways of collaborative research cooperation. In particular, President Min concluded MOU with Shanghai Marine University which is specialized for customs broker, for the first time among Korean University.
Nanchang University, which President Min visited on the 8th, is the only "211 Project" national key construction university in Jiangxi Province. President Min visited the State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Technology, one of the three major food research institutes in China, and discussed about joint research and cooperation between professors of two universities. President Min met again with the Secretary of Party, Yoo so who visited Konkuk University in December, 2018 and discussed about close and firm relationship and academic exchange between the two universities. Nanchang Institute of Technology is a private college and promoting the acquisition of a doctoral degree by teachers who are dedicated to lectures at universities. The President Toya Chung of Nanchang Institute of Technology promoted joint cooperation between Konkuk University, Nanchang University, and Nanchang Engineering College with postgraduate doctoral degree courses, and especially exchanged opinions on ways to obtain a Ph.D. degree from Nanchang Institute of Technology. In addition, they expressed their interests in future student outbound program and hoped that actual student exchange would proceed in the future.On the 9th, President Min visited Nanjing University to meet with Ho Gueumpa, the new Secretary of the Party, and discussed the development of student exchange and academic exchanges between the two universities and expressed appreciation for the mutual exchange between the two universities. Nanjing University is the most prestigious university in China, ranking 8th in China in 2018. It has been in cooperation with Konkuk University for MOU in 2005 and has been maintaining cooperation for 14 years. In particular, it has liaison offices between the two universities, And 2 + 2 dual degree programs in three departments of Korean Language and Literature. As of 2019, we have 23 students. RH KOREA (publisher) Chairman Yang Won-seok, who accompanied this visit to Nanjing University, proposed to donate 10,000 books to Nanjing University and expressed his promise of student exchanges and academic exchanges between Konkuk University and Nanjing University’s Korean Studies Department. On the 10th, 17 dispatched students were invited to the Nanjing International Conference Center to have a luncheon. On this occasion, the President listened and encouraged the students' experiences and difficulties in various school life in China and the stories they want from Konkuk University. In 2018, the school will host the Korea-China Joint Academic Conference, which was started by students themselves. The students who participated in the luncheon expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the Konkuk University-Nanjing University Dual-degree Program, and will prepare the Dual-degree programs Orientation for freshmen in the Global Business Department in advance through the participation of the various academic events.
On the 11th, President Min met Chong Ok-ho, the head of Shanghai Hainan University, to discuss the MOU between the two universities and mutual exchange. Shanghai Hainan University is a higher education institution under the direct supervision of the Chinese Customs Affairs Department, and is the representative educational institution that fosters Chinese customs officers. During the signing MOU ceremony, the Presidents of two universities discussed the exchange of students and professors, establishment of a mutual research institute (tentatively called the "Korea-China International Trade Research Center") and liaison office. They also decided to proceed on the joint research and academic seminar between professors of two universities.
In the afternoon, President Min visited Shanghai University and met with President Geum Dong-hang, who visited Konkuk University in July 2018, to further strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two universities. In the meeting with Vice President Wu Minghong, they agreed to expansion of student exchanges. In addition, President Min visited the College of Art, Life Sciences, Mechanical and Electronics Engineering, Automation College and Library, and had a time to listen to the research results and major status from the people concerned.
On the 12th, President Min visited the East China Normal University to discuss joint graduate programs of graduate schools and doctoral programs, and to discuss joint research and academic exchanges between the two universities. At the guesthouse of the East China Normal University, the Secretary of Party, Dong Se-Jun also expressed his interest in expanding academic exchanges between the two universities at a luncheon. East China Normal University is a prestigious university which is included in the "985 Project", "211 Project" and "Pinglin University", and has excellent competitiveness in marine environment, humanities and sociology. Since the signing of the MOU in 2009, the two universities have been actively engaged in student exchange and mutual visits of university officials. In October, 2018, six officials from the Welfare Management Department of the East China Normal University visited Konkuk University's Safety Management Team and the Office of Strategy and Finance to exchange information on the business consultation, the maintenance status of the university facilities, and the direction for safety management.
