Konkuk University announced that Professor Youngeun Choi (Department of Geography) and Professor Junmo Kim (Department of Public Administration and Management) won the Presidential Citation and the Prime Minister's Citation at the ceremony of ‘World Meteorological Day’ held at the Air Force Hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the 21st. The event, which was held under the theme 'The sun, the earth and the weather', 89 people received awards for their accomplishment for development of meteorological work including Sung-yoo Hong (Head of Korea Institute of Atmospheric Prediction Systems) and Sung-uk Cho (President of the Korea Meteorological Industry Association).Professor Choi was awarded the Presidential Citation for contributing to the appropriate response to the new era system, adaptation of climate change and establishment of mitigation policies. Professor Choi has published 'Korean Version of Climate Change Assessment Report' and has published numerous papers on changes in frequency and intensity of extreme climates in Korea, definitions of the subtropical climate region in Korea and future prospects. Professor Jun-mo Kim received a Prime Minister citation, contributing to the transparency and fairness of meteorological affairs through the activities of the Audit Advisor and the Integrity Ombudsman (external experts). Professor Kim has been acknowledged for contributing to the improvement of overall integrity and anti-corruption measure rating.Director Jong-seok Kim said, "I hope that this will be a momentum for the people to be interested in the role of the Korea Meteorological Administration and the seriousness of weather, climate and climate change. We will do our best to establish an effective climate change response policy."
