Konkuk University College of Art & Design Alumnus Dong-kyung Lee (Department of Moving Images and Film) received the Grand Award at the 1st Seoul Sky Media Art Award, sponsored by Lotte World SEOUL SKY.The Seoul Sky, which to become representative of Korea's prestigious media art space, the theme of this contest, which was designed to support new media art artists with the opportunity to become Seoul's premier observatory and multi-cultural exhibition space, were 'Pride of Korea', ‘Beauty of Korea’ and ‘SEOUL SKY’. Dong-kyung Lee received the Grand Prize and the prize money of 5 million won for the film "Night of Korea", which is a moving images of a colorful neo-sign and the beautiful line of Korean painting. Applicants selected a total of 7 media screen spots in Seoul Sky as a subtitle of "revealing the center of Korea with media art" and 20 teams were selected through the first screening on January 7, the second screening was conducted for the works and the final winner was selected in February.
Ten finalists were given the opportunity to screen their work on the Seoul Sky Media screen. he winners’ work will be displayed at the spot selected by Seoul Sky until June.
KU Alumnus Dong-kyung Lee said, "I made a memorable work for the last time as a student and I thought that the ‘scale’ of the contest, the theme ‘beauty of Korea’ which I should be proud of as a Korean, and ‘Media Art’ which I should keep working on are the three combined reasons why I have applied and challenged.” And add “even though there were a lot of difficulties such as final exams, study, and the completion of the work, but I was able to grow in the process of overcoming those difficulties and gained courage and confidence to be able to leap to the bigger stage.”
