Konkuk University (KU)’s commencement ceremony took place at the New Millennium Hall on February 22, 2019.4,565 graduate and undergraduate students from the main campus in Seoul and the GLOCAL campus in Chungju received their degrees. A total of 142 doctoral degrees, 806 master’s degrees, and 3,617 undergraduate degrees were conferred. Chairperson Award was presented to Yeon ju Lee (Department of Veterinary Medicine) and President Award was presented to PhD student Sun-min Lee (Graduate School), graduate student Gang-ho Bong (Graduate School), Jung-mi Lee (Graduate School of Architecture), Eun-kyung So (Graduate School of Law), Dong-hee Kang (Graduate School of Business), Jae-jin Lee (Graduate School of Public Administration), Hyun-sook Lee (Graduate School of Education), Kyung-ah Lee (Graduate School of Industry), Yong-un Shin (Graduate School of Agriculture & Animal Science), Hoon-sik Oh (Graduate School of Mass Communication & Public Relations), Nak-wan Joo (Graduate School of Information and Telecommunications), Tae-ran Moon (Graduate School of Art & Design), Jong-hak Kim (Graduate School of Real Estate), Young-shin Yang (Graduate School of Interdisciplinary & Creative Study)
For the undergraduate students, President Award was presented to Hyun-kyung Na (Department of Business Administration, College of Business Administration), Young-chul Chang (Department of Computer Engineering, College of Science and Technology, Glocal Campus).On the congratulatory remarks, KU President Sanggi Min encouraged the enthusiasm and hard work of graduates who have earned a glorious degree after many years of efforts and said “In order to achieve the desired result quickly and efficiently in a world where change is accelerating, it is important to cultivate the ability to do so, we must become leaders and innovators through constant study and experience.” After introducing examples of great people who grew up through failures such as Einstein and Picasso, President Min said, "Even after experiencing numerous failures in the society after graduation, we should never be frustrated. Creative innovation and success are not persuasive, I want you to remember the facts. An accurate indicator of the potential for innovation is not the quality of the idea, but the quantity," and he added that “We can get new inspiration and lessons from failure experiences through bold and creative attempts."President Min also emphasized the will to act as an intelligent intellectual. "At an important historical moment, the will of the intellectuals with the spirit of the times and the intelligence was the driving force of social change and even if individual actions cannot solve important social problems right away, I hope that we will change the society in which we live in the common good that emphasizes the value of coexistence and coexistence."On the congratulatory remarks, Chairperson Jaeun Yoo said "I hope that this year will be a historic milestone for the 100th anniversary of the 3.1 Movement, and that we should take pride in being a member of the National History Society and enter into society and unfold all of our dreams, and always keep in mind Dr. Seok-chang Yoo’s philosophy and keep an eye on Konkuk University’s development."
