	KU Matriculation Ceremony on March 4

Konkuk University (KU)’s matriculation ceremony was held at the New Millennium Hall and Ugok International Conference Hall on March 4, 2019. About 3,500 freshmen and their parents attended the ceremony which was organized to congratulate new students who are going to prepare for future and grow as global talent full of creativity. <img alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11755877" /> The ceremony was emceed by KU alumnus and TV presenter Yeong-il Shin was divided into two parts: official ceremony (opening performance, freshman pledge, declaration of code of ethics for students, conferment of scholarship certificates, declaration of matriculation, welcoming and congratulatory remarks, media performance, guidance on campus life and KU’s promotional video) and after- ceremony events (introduction of the KU Student Council, and celebratory performances).  Jina Kim of the Department of Business Administration, College of Business Administration, and Sung-gyun Lee of the Department of Philosophy, College of Liberal Arts, recited the freshman pledge and Somi Woo of the Department of Economics, College of Political Sciences, and Ki-taek Hong of the Department of Cosmetics Engineering, Konkuk Institute of Technology, read the declaration of code of ethics for students. <img width="665" height="374" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11755878" /> <img width="669" height="376" style="margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; display: block;" alt="" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11755875" /> During the scholarship certificate conferment ceremony, “First-class Sanghuh Scholarship “ certificate was awarded to Jin-hyun Lee of the College of Veterinary Medicine who took top place on the entrance examination and “Second-class Sanghuh Scholarship” certificate was awarded to Min Kim of the Department of Apparel Design, College of Art & Design. In addition, Chang-yoon Lee of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Ji-soo Seo of the Department of Systems Biotechnology, Konkuk Institute of Technology received “First-class KU Global Leader Scholarship” and “Second-class KU Global Leader Scholarship”, respectively. <img width="318" height="270" style="margin-right: 11px; margin-left: 11px; float: right;" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11755872" />On the congratulatory remarks, President Sanggi Min explained about Dr. Sukchang Yoo’s philosophy of foundation and said, "Konkuk University has been operating as a prime business for the past three years and has cultivated a multifunctional talent who will lead the fourth industrial revolution and has established itself as an industry-friendly university. Also "Our University is developing into a university respected by the people, a university that Korea prouds of, and a university attracting world's attention." And added that "The University is a turning point in your life that signals a new beginning and a starting point that can lead your life to success, so we have to set our life goals right and actively cope with changes in our times based on creative thinking".   
After introducing various educational programs and advanced facilities of Konkuk University including 7 + 1 self-design semester system, transfer, various linkage major, smart factory, and K cubes, President Min said, "Konkuk University has various programs and facilities which students can think about and make creative items, so I want students to have dream and challenge." Also the President Min introduced the term "Think Different" said by an Apple founder, Steve Jobs, and said, "I want you to have various experiences and think differently based on various experiences to make yourself special and different from others.” <img width="275" height="233" style="margin-right: 11px; margin-left: 11px; float: left;" src="ArticleFile.do?id=11755869" />On the congratulatory remarks, the chairperson Jaeun Yoo said, "Konkuk University is one of the most important historical private university founded by Dr. Seok-Chang Yoo, an independence activist, with a brilliant dream of national prosperity."  And “especially as this year is a historical year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 3.1 movement, I would like to encourage new students to be proud of being Konkuk University students. And added that "from now on, you need to set yourself and your own perspective how to see the world and experience various things in a broader world. I hope you have confidence that you will be able to survive without giving up."
