Konkuk University delayed the beginning of the Spring semester of 2020 to March 16, as the COVID-19 spread rapidly to the local community and the alert of the infectious disease crisis was upgraded to 'severe' level. Also, until March 29, all lectures will be conducted online.
Konkuk University recently held the academic affairs committee and decided to have a 15-week class for the spring semester to minimize students’ safety and missing classes due to the spread of COVID-19. Through the 'e-campus' (integrated learning management system), Konkuk University decided to have lectures online for 2 weeks. Konkuk University plans to record online lectures on 2,783 subjects based on undergraduate programs and install them on the e-campus sequentially.
However, it was decided to have make-up classes after 3rd weeks for the courses that are difficult to proceed online such as classes with discussion, experiment and practical trainings. In particular, if it is necessary to cancel a class to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the instructor can make a decision and set up a make-up class plan. And if Korean and international students are absent due to COVID-19, they will allow the students’ vacancy.
The online class is a class in which online lectures and online learning (tasks, quizzes, discussions, team projects) are operated remotely on the e-campus. Online classes that are not operated by e-campus, such as video sites such as YouTube or live broadcasting using SNS, will not be accepted.
Online classes are also subject to a total of 50 minutes of class time per 1 credit for a week. For example, students can watch a video for 50 minutes, or watching a video for 25 minutes, and doing online learning activities (tasks, quizzes, discussions, etc.) for the remaining 25 minutes.
Konkuk University's e-campus allows not only video lectures, but also mutual communication between professors and students about lecture plans, online lecture materials, announcements, Q&A, attendance, assignments, team projects, tests, discussions, and surveys.
Konkuk University said, “Every effort is made to take safety measures the university can take until students can come back to school. And we will minimize missing classes in a variety of ways so that students' right for learning is not affected by the current situation.
