KUmbrella, a Konkuk University volunteer group consisting of 81 both domestic and international students and faculty members of Konkuk University visited the households of the elderly living alone in Sinnae-dong, Junggok-dong, Guui-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and delivered 4,200 briquettes.
Konkuk University Volunteer Corps (KUmbrella) is a combination of KU (Konkuk University) and Umbrella (Umbrella), founded in August 2007 to help the community and neighbors or to help residents who suffer from disasters such as floods and typhoons. And they have been doing various volunteer activities for 12 years.For its volunteer service of winter 2019, which was jointly carried out with the Coal Briquettes for Neighbors in Korea, a non-profit organization, KUmbrella donated 4,200 briquettes and a box of noodles for each of the 14 households. The volunteers, dressed in vests, aprons, and warmers, climbed up and down the hill to deliver the goods in the cold weather.KUmbrella has been serving disaster-stricken areas and communities every year. It also performs overseas volunteer work regularly during the summer and winter breaks. KU student Hae-yeon Lee (Education Engineering 2nd grade) said, "Briquette was heavier than I thought, but I am proud that my neighbors will have a warm winter. And It was a good opportunity to help and create a heartwarming society full of warmth."
