Also, Shinhan Bank of Konkuk University branch joined in sharing compassion for local residents by donating 5 million won.KUmbrella, a community volunteer group of Konkuk University, is a compund of KU and Umbrella. Founded in August 2007, KUmbrealla has been engaged in various volunteer activities for 13 years to help communities and neighbors suffering from disasters such as floods and typhoons.
Together with ‘Coal Briquettes for Neighbors in Korea’, 4,200 briquettes were delivered to 14 households. The participating students wore disposable plastic gloves, semi-coated gloves, vests, apron, and tosses, and delivered briquettes themselves up and down the steep slopes, following the COVID-19 quarantine guidance of mask wearing and social distancing.
KUmbrella has annually served disaster relief volunteer or community service as well as regular overseas volunteer activity during the vacation. Jaeyoung Lee (freshman, Department of English Language & Literature) said, “Although the volunteer service is daunted due to the spread of COVID-19, it was fortunate for us to serve briquettes for the neighbors in need this year,” adding, “The briquettes were heavier than I thought, however, it was such a meaningful opportunity to make a contribution to build a warm society.”
