Dasommoa (다솜모아), a student club at Konkuk University, recently performed community service painting murals on old walls near Jungnangcheon in Gwangjingu.The community service held by Commission for University Innovation Project as student support programs was conducted by 59 students of the student club. The participating students painted murals under the concept of water parks and sports complex. Konkuk Volunteer Center and Gwangjingu Office supported the students’ activity from the very beginning stage of drawing.
Kaeun Kim (Department of Architecture, 19), the participant of the activity, said, “I believe that we can better deliver our message and draw people’s attention by painting murals on the walls near Jungnangcheon where active sports are played,” and “We hope that visitors can refresh their tired mind from COVID-19.”
Director of Sanghuh Volunteer Center, Eunhee Kim, said, “We are planning to design our own handbook regarding the participation of student clubs in community service,” and “We will make foundation for cooperation between other student clubs and colleges, and continue volunteer activities with Gwangjingu Office.”
124 students of Dassommoa (다솜모아), a student club at Konkuk University, have been doing their activities in connection with Korean habitat organizations. One of the main responsibilities of the student club is to provide home repair services to help improve the residence condition for vulnerable class for three to four times a month as of this year. The student club is also carrying out various volunteer activities including furniture production, donation and fund-raising services. It has won the Best Activity Award of Habitat in the first half of 2020 and has been actively engaging in community services in Seoul.
