Dr. Roger D. Kornberg, 2006 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and University Professor of Konkuk University, and his international research team won a major pharmaceutical research grant from the Guangzhou Provincial Government of China.
Titled “The 3rd Introduced Innovative R&D Team Leadership of Guangdong Province,” the five-year project is aimed at developing new drugs for cancer and infectious diseases by using Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD).
Worth approximately 20 billion Korean won, the project will be led by Dr. Kornberg and his research team that include Prof. Kang Lin-woo in the Department of Biological Sciences at Konkuk, Prof. Kim Young-joon in the Department of Biochemistry at Yonsei University of Korea, Prof. Yuichiro Takagi in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine of the U.S., as well as Prof. Zhong Wang and Prof. Qing Li at Sun Yat-Sen University of China.
The project will also involve the USA-based pharmaceutical start-up Cocrystal Discovery (CDI), Inc. . The project was launched in November 2012.
