On 12 and 17 April 2013, Konkuk University Hospital (Konkuk University Medical Center) performed free heart surgery for a Chinese teenager and a Russian child at the hospital. The expenses were borne by the hospital, Mudan River City of China and a Russian entrepreneur named Lysak Gennady. The surgery was performed by Dr. Song Meong-gun of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Cheng Yue from China was born with aortic insufficiency and aortic valve stenosis, while Krutiakova Maria from Russia was born with a ventricular septal defect (VSD).
The hospital has performed free heart surgery for children from China and Southeast Asian countries every year since July of 2001.
