An animation film created by five Konkuk students studying moving image was nominated to the Best Graduation Film category of the 2013 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. which will be held in June in Annecy of France.
Titled Haegeumni (해금니), the documentary-style film was inspired by an interview with a North Korean defector, and portrays the defector’s ordeal in the communist state. The title literally means a smelly residue of soil and organic matters, and it represents the desolation within the North.
Five Konkuk students including Mr. Seong Joon-su and Ms. Kim Jae-yeon participated in the project. Mr. Seong directed the film.
A festival equivalent to the Cannes Film Festival, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival is one of the world’s major animation film festivals along with the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival, the Hiroshima International Animation Film Festival and the Zagreb Film Festival.
