In Feb. 2014, Konkuk University (KU) became a member university of the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP), a voluntary association of members represented by government departments or ministries of higher education, association of universities, or individual universities. Established in 1993, UMAP aims to enhance cultural, economic, and social understanding in the Asia-Pacific region under the motto of "Harmony within Diversity." Specifically, UMAP focuses on facilitating the mobility of higher education students and staff through mutual cooperation and exchange among its members, especially through the UMAP Exchange Program.
UMAP membership comprises 34 eligible member countries, including the Republic of Korea, and about 500 participating universities that are located in these countries. The Exchange Program involves a two-way student exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students, which allows them to study for one or two semesters at the host university. Host universities' responsibilities include waiving tuition fees for UMAP exchange students and providing the approved study program as well as support services, while home universities are required to select exchange students and staff while determining and allocating relevant financial support.
The UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) is designed to effectively manage the UMAP Multilateral Student Exchange Program (UME), UMAP Bilateral Student Exchange Program (UBE), and UMAP Student Exchange on Special Courses (USC).
