Konkuk University (KU) operated the 8th Workshop for Overseas Korean Teachers which provides information ranging from teaching methods to Korean education, from Jan. 13 to 23, 2014, by inviting teachers who teach Korean in universities and high schools abroad. This program aims to enhance the quality of Korean education in overseas educational institutes, which include KU's partner universities in China, and to support the development of Korean education content.
For this year's Workshop, 30 non-Korean faculty members who teach Korean in overseas universities (e.g., Fudan University, China; Sofia University, Bulgaria; Naresuan University, Thailand; etc.) were invited. Lectures were held at the Konkuk University Language Institute (KLI) and given by KLI Korean professors as well as other domestic Korean education professionals. The Workshop introduced the latest Korean teaching methodologies through various program content, such as observing a Korean education class at KU; receiving training on Korean language norms, pronunciation, grammar, various expressions, and Korean literature teaching methods; and other elements that are necessary for teaching Korean overseas. It also provided a forum where the trainees could discuss the measures for developing Korean education curricula and material tailored to the local situation. The trainees were able to enhance their understanding of Korean culture as Korean language teachers.
KU plans to continue to promote exchange and cooperation through the establishment of Korean curricula overseas, joint development of Korean teaching methods and contents, and lecture exchange.
