Mr. Jung Ho Lee, a KU student majoring in history, travelled across Eurasia for eight months on a Korean motorcycle. Departing South Korea and arriving at the UK, Lee visited 17 different countries in Asia and Europe on his own during this 22,800km trip, from May 12 to Dec. 3, 2013.
Lee had planned this trip in order to gain an understanding of other cultures and peoples and to send out a message of dream and spirit of challenge. Lee's motorcycle, a new 250cc model named 'Daystar 250,' was provided by Daelim Motor Co., Ltd. after he had visited the company with his marketing proposal. The vehicle was remodeled to be suitable for the world tour, with a compartment attached to the rear seat and a bumper on the front of the engine.
Lee had gone on a nationwide tour of Korea for 60 days in 2010 with a Daelim 125cc VJF-1. He explained that a motorcycle is just the right vehicle for a trip which involves meeting many new people and learning about their lives and culture, not to mention its convenience as a personal transportation method.
As the most memorable places during his tour, Lee chose Mongolia and Venice, Italy. "It was hard to travel through Mongolia because most roads were unpaved, yet I cannot forget the sight of the great nature before my eyes," he said. "In Venice, it was interesting to observe the similarities between the Venetian people's way of living, centered on the canals in between small islands and the beautiful scenery of the ocean, and that of the Korean people."
Due to the delayed schedule, Lee could not travel through the North American continent as he had initially planned. "I will try to travel through North America in the near future," he said.
