At the MSC 2014 Campus Simulating Contest for undergraduate and graduate students held at the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency (Gyeonggi-do, Korea), on Feb. 27, 2014, two teams of Konkuk University (KU) mechanical engineering students were awarded the gold and bronze prizes.
The objective of the MSC Campus Simulating Contest, which has been held for the second time, is to discover talented students in the computer-aided engineering (CAE) field. Undergraduate or graduate students can participate and compete either individually or in groups under a theme that incorporates CAE.
The theme of this year's competition was "The Interpretation of Sports in the Perspective of CAE." Students selected a sport of their choice to conduct CAE interpretation. A team of judges composed of current director-level engineers at Hyundai Motor Group, Korea Aerospace Industries, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Mobis, evaluated their work. The five teams that went on to the final round presented and demonstrated their work in front of the judges.
As a result, the gold prize was given to the Ms. Seunghyeon Cho and Mr. Taejin Kim's team, "Hole In One," that provided a commentary on the dynamics of golf swing posture and the optimal design of golf shafts, while the bronze prize went to KU's "2HJ" team, Mr. Yoonseok Ko and Ms. Hye-jin Kim, for their study of the influence that the bowling ball core has on the ball's movement and the method of selecting the core based on the situation. Both teams were given prizes as well as free registration for all courses provided by the MSC Software Corporation (Korean branch) in 2014.
