On June 10, 2014, Dr. Robert A. Reiser, Professor of Instructional Systems and Distinguished Teaching Professor at Florida State University (FSU), was invited to Konkuk University (KU) to give a special lecture on effective teaching strategies and education for university students. At the KU Sanghuh Memorial Library, 60 students and faculty gathered to learn about Prof. Reiser's know-how in effective teaching. Prof. Reiser is a distinguished scholar in instructional methods who has lectured at FSU for the past 38 years.
Prof. Leiser shared his expertise in preparing for lectures and what to teach in and outside the classroom. He noted that it is possible to find out which lectures were ineffective when the statistics of students' grades for each chapter are analyzed. As for teaching in the classroom, he stressed remembering students' names and having a sense of humor. He, in fact, captured the interest of the audience by utilizing a great sense of humor as well as various gestures. Prof. Leiser supports students' studies even outside the classroom, by providing supplementary information on the lecture contents through SNS.
This was Prof. Leiser's third visit to Korea, followed by his previous visits in 2007 and 2012. He mentioned there are many outstanding Korean students in FSU, adding that the students attending the lecture participated very actively and that he was satisfied with the good interaction between him and the audience.
