Prof. Roger D. Kornberg, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2006) and Konkuk University (KU) University Professor, visited Korea on May 13, 2014, to carry out various academic activities including special lectures, participation in academic symposium, and joint research.
On May 14, Prof. Kornberg delivered a keynote speech and gave a special lecture for youth at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (KSBMB). On the following day, he delivered a congratulatory address at the 83rd Anniversary Celebration of the Foundation of Konkuk University. He also participated in the academic symposium hosted by the College of Bioscience & Biotechnology, where he had conversations with KU students about the career pathways of a scientist and the future of bioscience. Afterwards, he attended the KU Bio Symposium for Young Scientists, which was co-hosted by the graduate research assistants, post-doc fellows, and newly appointed professors at the College of Animal Bioscience & Technology, College of Life & Environmental Sciences, College of Bioscience & Biotechnology, and College of Veterinary Medicine.
During his visit to Korea, Prof. Kornberg also discussed the research outcomes of the KU Global Lab which he is jointly operating with Prof. Lin-Woo Kang (Division of Biological Sciences, College of Bioscience & Biotechnology) as well as international research trends.
