Konkuk University announced on the 14th that it has been selected as ‘Capacity Building Project of Vietnam National University of Agriculture for Nurturing Livestock Professionals in Vietnam’, a higher education project promoted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The project will be subsidized from 2021 to 2030 with 12.7 million dollars (15.4 billion won) to support Vietnam National University of Agriculture to foster high-quality livestock professionals, and is on the same direction of the government's new southern policy.
The project is planning to provide a wide range of support as follows: environment improvement with educational curriculum and equipment, study abroad program in Korea to strengthen the competence of faculty and students, joint research promotion, career development support, improvement of livestock system and so on.
Vietnam National University of Agriculture, located in Hanoi, Vietnam, was established in 1956 and is currently a comprehensive university with about 30,000 enrolled students. In particular, 2,100 students are enrolled in Department of Animal Husbandry and cultivating 60% of the total livestock talents in Vietnam.
Professor Soo Ki Kim from Konkuk University’s Department of Animal Science and Technology, who is in charge of this project, said, “It is our plan to establish ‘Vietnam-Korea Livestock Higher Education Institute’ as an office to sign MOU and promote the project between the two universities. Also, we will hold annual academic events alternately for exchange between Vietnam and Korea.”
