Konkuk University and Gangneung City announced on the 7th that they have signed a MOU to pursue efficient urban development and urban regeneration projects.
In the opening ceremony on the 2nd held at Konkuk University’s Administration Building, the President of Konkuk University, Young Jae Jeon, Executive Vice President for Public Affairs, Il Min Jeong, Professor Jung Geun Oh at Department of Urban Regeneration, Mayor of Gangneung City, Han Geun Kim and Director of Ministry of Construction and Transportation, Young Kuk Song participated in.
Throughout the agreement, the two institutions will meet the demand for review and consultation from experts and mutually cooperate on relevant projects and researches to interchange manpower, set policies and implement a business.
The purpose of urban generation, a main field of this agreement, is to study a variety of sustainable urban management plans to enhance the quality of life with economic revitalization and job creation while improving the competitiveness of a declining city. Another goal of this agreement is to transform a city into a socially, economically and environmentally attractive and competitive city through urban regeneration.
Konkuk University and Gangneung City will jointly work to cooperate on research development and policymaking through review and consultation from experts, local education, content development and data sharing regarding urban regeneration. A business conference will also be held by Department of Urban Regeneration at Konkuk University, KU Institute of Sustainable Urban Regeneration and relevant departments at Gangneung City.
Mayor of Gangneung City, Han Geun Kim said, “We believe that the agreement will be a chance for Gangneung City to step forward,” adding that, “We hope that Konkuk University will provide consultation and advice regarding the urban regeneration projects planned by Gangneung City.”
The President of Konkuk University, Young Jae Jeon stated, “This agreement will help Konkuk University extend its excellent capabilities and resources.”
Professor Jung Geun Oh at Department of Urban Regeneration and KU Institute of Sustainable Urban Regeneration announced, “We believe that this agreement will serve as a cornerstone for the growth management urban regeneration of Gangneung City, improve the quality of life and urban competitiveness and further foster urban regeneration professionals at Konkuk University.”
