From July 30 to Aug. 9, 2014, Konkuk University (KU) held the 9th Workshop for Overseas Korean Teachers with the participation of 30 non-Korean faculty members who teach Korean in high schools and universities abroad. This is an educational training program which provides comprehensive information on Korean teaching methodology and education, aiming to enhance the educational quality of Korean curricula taught in overseas institutions and to support Korean education contents development.
The Korean teachers came from various overseas universities including Fudan University (China), Hanoi University, (Vietnam), Naresuan University (Thailand), and Sofia University (Bulgaria). They audited Korean education classes conducted by Korean teachers at KU and went through training on overall Korean education which includes language norms, expressions, teaching methodologies for Korean literature, and Korean class models that are necessary elements for teaching Korean in overseas settings. Also, discussions were held on the following topics: differences between Korean classes held in Korean and non-Korean settings, measures for improvement, tailored educational curricula and textbook development, educational contents development, etc. Lectures were given by the Korean language teachers at the Konkuk Language Institute (KLI) as well as teachers at other institutions.
KU, taking this opportunity, will provide information on the recent trends of Korean education, planning to further promote Korean educational contents development and lecture exchange.
