Konkuk University's (KU) "Sincerity (성, 誠), Fidelity (신, 信), and Righteousness (의, 義) Overseas Volunteer Group" visited Gobleg in Bali, Indonesia, during July 1-12, 2014, to participate in Habitat for Humanity for the local people of Indonesia.
Together with Habitat for Humanity Korea, the KU volunteers built houses for local residents of Gobleg in poor environments and carried out educational and cultural activities for children and other neighbors. KU students built two houses by setting the foundation, building walls using bricks, and installing doors and roofs.
KU volunteers also provided various recreational activities, such as K-pop performance, taekwondo, Korean traditional play, bubble play, face painting, balloon art, and Polaroid photo shots. They also shared with the children school supplies, daily commodities, maps of Korea and the world, postcards with historic photos, among others, that have been donated by Konkuk University Medical Center, Pharmaceutical Association of Gwangjin-gu (i.e., the district where KU Main (Seoul) Campus is located), Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK), etc.
The KU Volunteer Group, which initiated its first overseas volunteer activities in 2003, has been serving twice a year during the summer and winter breaks with Habitat for Humanity. Thus far, a group of around 40 KU students has visited Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and other nations where a helping hand is needed.
