According to the CWTS (Centre for Science and Technology Studies) Leiden Ranking 2014 which assessed the contribution of 750 universities worldwide to international scientific journals in the period 2009-2012, Konkuk University (KU) ranked 9th among private universities in Korea. Among all universities in Asia, KU was placed 183rd.
According to Leiden University's CWTS, among KU's 2,082 publications, the proportion of top 10% publications, or PP, was 5.0%. This means that 104 KU publications belong to the top 10% most frequently cited scholarly articles.
The Leiden Rankings is known for its accurate assessment of scientific performance based on the Thomson Reuters' Web of Science database and an objective set of indicators. The five fields in the previous rankings have been specified into seven areas starting from 2014: cognitive and health sciences; earth and environmental sciences; life sciences; mathematics, computer science, and engineering; medical sciences; natural sciences; and social sciences.
KU is reinforcing its research capacity through various endeavors, ranging from establishing networks with prestigious research institutes abroad to recruiting outstanding scholars based in overseas institutions.
