Konkuk University (KU) School of Medicine (Dean: Prof. Ki Il Uhm) announced on April 14, 2014, that the University has been selected as an official Partner Group of the Max Planck Institutes based in Germany. With this as a momentum, KU will be promoting a full-fledged joint stem cell research.
The Max Planck Institute supports its Partner Groups to promote a future-oriented, creative research environment for superb researchers overseas. Prior to April 2014, there were more than 40 Max Planck Partner Groups worldwide; therefore, KU became the 41st Partner Group. A "Partner Group" may be elevated to a "Center" based on the evaluation of its research outcomes.
The Max Planck Society is the largest European organization dedicated to research. Since its establishment in 1948, 17 Max Planck scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize. It is a major research organization which operates 87 research facilities throughout Germany and publishes more than 15,000 scholarly articles each year.
