In the comprehensive basic medical sciences examination held on Dec. 26, 2014, Konkuk University (KU) School of Medicine was placed no. 1 among all 29 participating universities. Among the 2,330 examinees, the average score of Konkuk students was 52.6, placing Konkuk at the very top; the national average was 47.6. This examination, conducted by the Medical Education Assessment Consortium of the Korean Association of Medical Colleges (KAMC), consisted of seven subjects: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, and parasitology.
The Medical Education Assessment Consortium was launched in 2008, with the purpose of assessing basic medicine education of Korean universities. Currently, 38 among 41 schools of medicine nationwide are taking part in this annual comprehensive basic medical sciences examination. The Consortium conducts comprehensive clinical medicine evaluation twice annually.
KU School of Medicine requires first year students to pass the comprehensive basic medical sciences examination before their second year of studies, equipping students with firm knowledge and academic background in the basic medical sciences.
