Short-term Study Abroad Program (SAP) and International Internship Program
To foster global leaders, Konkuk University (KU) operates the Short-term Study Abroad Program (SAP), KU-Asian Leaders Program, and International Internship Program which send students to nine countries (Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Malta, Philippines, and US) during the vacation.
The SAP and internship program take place in Konkuk's partner universities, where students take language classes, receive corporate training, and participate in local cultural programs. Selected students, 238 in total, have departed for their scheduled programs starting from June 25, 2015.
A new addition to the SAP is the program at Carroll College, located in Montana, US. During the period between June 25 and July 15, students will be attending lectures given by Carroll College professors with subjects ranging from American culture and history, business management, etc.
The KU-Asian Leaders Program, which sends the largest body of students, allows students to study at Shanghai Finance University in China. Launched in 2010, it is the sixth year to operate this program, in which students are assigned to four different classes according to their Chinese proficiency levels and provided more than 100 hours of Chinese classes as well as opportunities for cultural experiences.
KU Overseas Volunteer Group
KU Sincerity (성, 誠), Fidelity (신, 信), and Righteousness (의, 義) Overseas Volunteer Group held a kick-off ceremony on June 24, 2015, prior to departing for volunteer activities in Cambodia. Konkuk students will take part in building houses and provide cultural education classes for local residents with Habitat for Humanity Korea until July 4.
KU Overseas Exploration Programs
Konkuk's representative overseas exploration programs, the PRIDE KU New Frontier Program and Dr. Jung Overseas Program, held kick-off ceremonies for this summer's activities.
The PRIDE KU New Frontier Program, marking its 19th anniversary this year, is the first and oldest overseas program offered by a domestic university. The annual program, which provides about 70% of travelling expenses as a scholarship, aims at enhancing students' global competitiveness and pioneering spirit by offering diverse experiences in multicultural settings. Forty students in two teams will visit the Western part of the US and Oceania, respectively, for 16 days starting in July for this 2015 PRIDE KU New Frontier Program.
Since 2012, Dr. Jung Overseas Program has been operated through an annual donation from Dr. Kunsoo Jung, President of KU Alumni Association, intended to expand overseas experiences and foster the global spirit of Konkuk students. Sixty students have thus far visited Europe through this program offered by President Jung, a KU alumnus who graduated 44 years ago. This summer, 20 selected students left for Western Europe for two weeks starting in June 22 to learn about the region's education, policies, history, and culture.
