When asked about the reason for carrying out volunteer work, members of KAMSA, Konkuk Association of Medical Service Asset, responded "for a life with meaning." What is, then, "a life with meaning"? KAMSA members were approaching the answer to this question by engaging in volunteer work at Rafael Center Clinic in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul. To encounter oneself in the course of helping others; this is KAMSA's reason for being.
Club members offer free medical treatment at the clinic every other week, as part of a group of 40 medical staff and 100 non-professional volunteers. This is the 9th year for KAMSA, consisting of students of Konkuk University (KU) School of Medicine, to participate in this service.
KAMSA's reach is not confined to Rafael Center Clinic. The club, in cooperation with the KU Medical Center volunteer group, assists the mobile clinic, which serves the local residents, three times a year. During the summer, volunteer activities take place in rural parts of Korea for three days and two nights.
KAMSA had also participated in volunteer work involving distributing coal briquettes to neighbors in need with "Babsang Community," and plans to join the activity every winter.
