As part of its core measure to reinforce educational and research competitiveness, Konkuk University (KU) has been selecting its top academic programs to be fostered as the PRIDE Leading Group. “PRIDE” is short for “Providing Learner-centered Education, Reinforcing Research Competitiveness, Improving International Cooperation, Developing Pro-KU Network, and Enhancing Management System.”
For the past two years, six programs – Dept. of Physics, Dept. of Real Estate Studies, Division of Specialized Studies (College of Bioscience & Biotechnology), Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Dept. of Veterinary Medicine, and Dept. of Media & Communication – have been chosen and intensively nurtured as the PRIDE Leading Group. Through the third annual evaluation, two departments – Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering – have been added to the selection.
The KU Dept. of Chemical Engineering will embark on producing global leaders in nano-technology (NT), biotechnology (BT), and environmental technology (ET) based on chemical process technology, through consumer-oriented education and academic-industry research. Meanwhile, the Dept. of Environmental Engineering aims to cultivate global experts in integrated environmental measurement and management technology who are equipped with a world-class competitiveness in the environmental industry.
Programs within the PRIDE Leading Group were selected through an overall evaluation of research accomplishments and technical excellence in the areas of cutting-edge new technology and new growth engines for the reinforcement of national competitiveness. Furthermore, programs with a competitive edge in their respective fields were prioritized.
