Konkuk Construct Eco-friendly Engineering Building of Massive Scale
Celebrating the 70th anniversary since its establishment, Konkuk University (KU) has been making incessant efforts to join the ranks of top 5 universities in Korea, with its slogan "Leap for the Future, Soar up to the World." The College of Engineering, originally established in 1966 as the engineering division and which developed into a separate college in 1969, has become the largest school at Konkuk. It is composed of nine departments, one division, and 11 majors, with 2,500 students currently enrolled and 90 faculty members.
To assume its role as an institution which trains the key players of Korea's industrial development and the nation's future, the highest level of engineering education takes place through its curricula that reflect recent trends and social circumstances. Cutting-edge experimental equipment and facilities are also furnished at the College to add to the efforts of fostering the future leaders of science and technology. Furthermore, the eco-friendly New Engineering Building to be completed in July 2016 will become the cornerstone which will further enhance the status of the College.

The Division of Mechanical Engineering of the KU College of Engineering has set its goal to join the ranks of top 30 engineering programs in Asia by 2016. The research areas of its mechanical systems convergence project group cover a) an intelligent and clean production system which will innovate the production method of eco-friendly IT goods and b) biomedicine mechanical system concerning medical robots and the prevention, diagnosis, and analysis of diseases; they are namely convergent-type mechanical system technologies combining traditional technologies with information technology (IT), nanotechnology (NT), and environmental technology (ET). These have recently been selected as the nation's growth engine for the reinforcement of national competitiveness and future industries. Currently, the Division of Mechanical Engineering faculty have formed partnerships and networks, domestically and globally, based on solid human networks.
